Awards Banquet, Sale and Racing Top Big Weekend in Brazil
SAO PAULO, BZ—FEBRUARY 25, 2013—The ‘Velocity Brazilian Weekend’ was a tremendous success when the Sorocaba Jockey Club re-opened for the 2-years-old Quarter Horses, with the trials for the first Grade 1 stake of the year, the Grande Prêmio Jockey Clube De Sorocaba – Torneio Início, a barbecue, awards banquet, sale and finals of the South America Racing Challenge.
The weekend started on Friday (February 22) with a Big Ribs Barbecue at the Sorocaba´s Jockey Club provide by Haras Vista Verde as a preview of the sales horses at the Leilão Vista Verde & Amigos 2013 (Vista Verde & Friends 2013 sale).
An American group led by Vince Genco attended the festivities in Brazil over the weekend.
Saturday (February 23), trials for the Grande Prêmio Jockey Clube De Sorocaba – Torneio Início Stakes (G1), for 2 years old making their first start were held. The race final will run for a total purse of R$ 250,000.00 (U$ 125,000.00) plus an increase of R$ 100,000.00 for the owner and a car for the trainer if the winner is a Vista Verde breeding horse. Five trials were run over 330 yards, and the winner of each trial became a finalists.
The first race qualified The Black Cash (Granite Lake X Miss Dancer Cash by Go The Cash), :16.82 with the best time for the Bolivian group “Stud Santa Cruz De La Sierra”. Erico Braga bred the horse.
Five trial races were conducted on Saturday for the Grande Prêmio Jockey Clube De Sorocaba – Torneio Início Stakes.
The second race qualified Avatar Hbr (Tux N Rolls X Queen Vista, by Apollo Vm), :16.93 for the owner/ breeder Haras Brasil.
The third race, qualified Upsala Vista (Granite Lake X Hillary Filly by Rare Form), :17.07 for the owner Laercio Fernando Silva, and the breeder is Haras Vista Verde
The fourth race qualified Uomo Verde (Check Him Out X Best Empress, by Holland Ease), :17.17, for the owner Haras Jc, and the breeder is Haras Vista Verde
The last trial of the day, qualified Miss Good Sound (Holland Ease X Good Sound, by Super Sound Charge), for owner Haras São Matheus, and the breeder is Haras Fazenda Bela.
The afternoon wind changed a lot during the day, starting with a cross wind earlier that turned into a strong head wind by the last race. Those five horses will be at the finals on March 16.
The Leilão Vista Verde & Amigos 2013 sale began following the races, featuring 44 yearlings by 14 different stallions including Holland Ease, Fishers Dash, Separatist, Panther Mountain, Trisk, Dean Miracle, and others.
All the yearlings are “Drugs Free”, meaning that all of them are free of drugs during all their yearling preparation.
Before the sales begin, Mauro Eli Zaborowsky, Haras Vista Verde owner and his son Marcos Zaborowsky, invited other breeders, (most of them Vince Genco Brazilian clients) to an Awards Ceremony for the support that Genco, an AQHA Director and Racing Committee member, has given to the Brazilian breeders.
Than the Haras Vista Verde invited the owner of two finalists Upsala Vista & Uomo Verde, to a picture with the extra R$ 100,000.00 BONUS (offered by the Haras Vista Verde) for one of them will receive if wins the final race.
The sales brought an average of R$ 37.500,00 (about U$ 19,000) and a total sale of U$ 1,764,000.00 (about U$ 900,000).
On Sunday (February 24), an American group led by Genco that included Jon Semper, Vaughn Cook, Thomas Bradbury Sr. and Thomas Bradbury Jr. attended the finals of the South America Racing Challenge Championship.
